5 good reasons to upgrade to an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 6 Plus

When Apple reveals a new smartphone, everyone sits up and listens - and with the possible exception of Samsung’s flagship launch, it’s the only mobile phone event guaranteed to make headlines outside of the tech pages. Bigger, faster, sleeker: the latest iPhone is always going to be that little bit lovelier than the last. Loyal Apple fans will get hold of the iPhone 6 as a matter of course. The rest of us take a little more convincing.

Here are some of the reasons why your next mobile should be an iPhone 6…

You want a big screen

If your phone is your device of choice for TV, Netflix etc, a sub-5-inch screen can seem a little underwhelming – which explains the growth in popularity of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Apple was late to the table with a phablet offering - but has now made up for it. Launched alongside the 4.7-inch screen iPhone 6 is the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. According to early reports, Apple has made good use of this extra screen space – (e.g. the iPhone 6 Plus can display its homescreen in both portrait and landscape modes, just like an iPad). In fact, reviewers have referred to the iPhone 6 as a micro iPad (which is definitely not bad thing!).

You’re serious about health and fitness

With new generation sensors, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus can track your steps taken and calories burned – they can sense when you’re climbing hills and can adjust its calculations accordingly. They can also detect your weight. The ideal accompaniment for this is the new Apple Watch – with its ability to monitor heart rate and movement, to learn your habits and to become your virtual personal trainer with fully personalised training regimes. Expect the App store to feature a gradually expanding range of ways to take advantage of these new capabilities. Apple is positioning the iPhone 6 as the device of choice

You’re fed up of paying by card or cash

One of the headline feature of the new iPhone is Apple Pay. The idea is that iPhone 6 owners will be able to pay for stuff in shops, restaurants etc with a flick of their smartphone. It’s not exactly a totally new idea (contactless terminals of one form or other are already in lots of UK shops). Up until now however, there has been a big question mark over security (although it’s not as if credit cards are totally fraud-proof). That issue is partially resolved with the integration of fingerprint ID. You enter your card details onto your phone (onto Passbook). When you need to pay for something, you select your card of choice from Passbook, hold the phone to the payment terminal and use TouchID to verify your fingerprint – and that’s it. According to Tech Radar who have seen it in action in real life, the process is pretty quick and seamless.

Apple stated at the launch that they have already teamed up with lots of big named retailers to roll out the idea. Don’t expect to be able to get an iPhone 6 and then be able to leave your wallet at home though: it’s likely to be 2015 before we see Apple Pay start to become available in the UK.

You’re serious about gaming

With bigger and better screens, expect bigger and better games for the iPhone. A combination of a bigger screen and faster processor raises the likelihood of not just better looking but also more complex games. As a taste of this, Apple chose to showcase the gaming potential of the iPhone 6 with Vainglory, a complex and visually stunning multiplayer online battle arena game.

You want a better camera

Digitqal image stabilisation should result in a slightly crisper image than with the iPhone 6’s predecessors. Improved face detection should come into its own in group selfies – whereas “burst mode” lets you take lots of rapid fire shots and pick the best one. You can also shoot time lapse videos and cool slow-mo videos thanks to the option of recording at 240 frames per second.

You want an all-round smarter phone

Both of these phones are thinner and curvier than the iPhone 5S and promise longer battery life. You get smart predictive typing, much better internal storage, ion-strengthened glass and improvements on every level compared to the phone’s predecessor – including faster all-round performance thanks to a new processor.

Make sure your iPhone 6 is in safe hands with one of our iPhone 6 cases and iPhone 6 Plus cases from Mobile Madhouse.
