Top 10 Features of the Google Pixel

Google continues to forge a path in the smartphone market with the release of its Google Pixel model. The 5-inch display and sharp graphics make this one of the more interesting releases this year coming as it does with all the hardware and software that you would expect from a high end range smartphone. Running the latest Android Nougat software, it’s the first phone to feature Google Assistant already built in. There’s certainly plenty to notice about this new kid on the block.

Here are our top 10 features of the Google Pixel:

1. Sharp Display

The 5-inch display is perfect for those who prefer their smartphone to actually look like a smartphone and fit neatly in their pocket. You won’t find a better device in a similar size, rivalling the iPhone range and Samsung’s best. The display quality is spot on and pin sharp at 441ppi. From watching videos to viewing photos, it’s got the clarity and colour users yearn for.

2. Snapdragon Processor

One of the key features of the Google Pixel is the Snapdragon 821 processor which gives you a smooth ride when it comes to using multiple apps and overall performance. It may not be technically the fastest processor out there but it is consistently quick and works well in most circumstances. It makes switching between apps and features pretty easy and with the fast USF 2.0 storage there’s not much to worry about in the performance stakes.

3. Excellent Camera

Smartphone cameras are beginning to come on in leaps and bounds at the moment. The 12 MP one  on the Google Pixel is pretty good quality and matches anything on the market at the moment with superb image quality. There’s no delay when you press the shutter button and you can also zap multiple images with Smartburst and the camera’s software will then select the best ones.

As with other recent cameras you can access HDR mode for more stunning images. One of the big advantages is that you also get unlimited storage on Google Photos. This is one of the powerhouse top 10 features of the Google Pixel and almost worth the money on its own.

4. Plenty of Storage

Although there is still no HD slot for improving memory you get plenty of storage with the 32GB and 128GB models with access, of course, to Google cloud facilities. That means you have unlimited remote storage for all your photos and videos and can use the rest of the memory for apps and utilities.

5. Smart Storage

While 128GB may not be enough for many android phone users, the Google Pixel also has smart storage. This means that it will automatically delete photos and videos after they have been on your phone for a while, making sure that you optimise the space you have. Of course, you don’t have to worry about this (and you can set the time limit anyway) as your images will all be stored, full size on the Google Photo Cloud.

6. Google’s Smart Assistant

If you’ve ever wanted a more personal Google, then the smart assistant here might be just up your street. It needs a little tweaking and development but we’re assured that this is on the way and will make it a powerful part of the Pixel’s top performing features. The voice recognition is a lot smarter than the old Google Now and this intuitive nature is what may make it a success. Everything is intended to revolve around the Google Assistant and further developments make it an indispensable feature for any Google Pixel user.

For those who like talking to their phone this top 10 feature of Google Pixel is a must. The good news is that it also gets smarter the more you use it.

7. Night Screen Mode

Blue light has been a problem for smartphones in recent times. Using your phone at night, especially just before you go to bed, can potentially disrupt your sleep patterns by interfering with melanin production. The night light basically reduces the amount of blue light produced by your display, something that stops sleep disruption from happening. It’s also thought to help prevent any eye strain issues.

8. Solid Battery

For most smartphone users, battery life is always an issue. While it’s not leaps and bounds ahead of any competitors, the Google Pixel is a pretty solid performer. You can get a whole day out of moderate usage, though an evening charge may be in order for many hardcore users. It’s 2,770A power source is larger than the iPhone 7 and you’ll get a reasonable charge for each full charge.

It actually performs quite well with media too and only loses a small percentage (about 15%) of power running a 90-minute video compared to some of its competitors.

9. Interactive Fingerprint Reader

This is on the back of the phone, compared to the front for other android and iPhone readers, but has a little extra tech built in. If you want to see all your notifications when you open the phone, swiping down on the button gives you just that. A little fiddly to use initially, once you get used to the fingerprint reader it’s one of the Google Pixel’s top features and makes ease of use, particularly with one hand, a breeze.

10. 24/7 Support

When you open your Pixel for the first time, one thing you will notice is that there’s a support icon. You can tap on this at any time and get 24/7 tech support from the good people of Google and they can even take a quick peak at your screen and see what the problem is. This might not be a major feature for everyone, but for less geek centred users there’s sure to be a call for it.

As a new addition to the smartphone range, the Google Pixel has plenty going for it. The top 10 features above are all backed up with standard Android packages and you can expect further developments on the Google Assistant over the coming months. It’s certainly a phone that is easy on the eye, simple to use, has a great camera and plenty of processing clout.
